to List The Hong Kong-based asset management unit of Oriental Patron Financial Group plans to start a fund of hedge funds and separately managed account platform later this year. It will invest mainly in long-short equity and quantitative strategies that have been on OP Investment Management's platform for at least a year.
"The fund of funds will launch with backing from Chinese corporate investors and family offices and will begin approaching European and U.S. endowments, foundations and pension funds in the middle of next year. Chinese managers are still vastly underrepresented on institutional investors' global allocations," Alvin Fan, chief executive officer at the unit, OP Investment Management said. "If you look at most allocations, their Asian exposure is through funds run out of the U.S., Hong Kong or Singapore. There are very few home-grown Chinese teams."
